This was a good idea and I was thinking how I could change it for my first graders. I would definitely do addition and subtraction cards instead, I also might use only two answer options instead of three for the younger group. I was also thinking that after they did this game with the paper beach ball, I could get a real one and put numbers on it and they could pass the ball and say a number model to go with the number they caught it on, just as a continuation.
I also like this idea. The children seem so excited when an activity involves a beach ball. I have taped words on a beach ball; my kindergartners pass the ball and read a word when they catch it. I look forward to trying simple addition this spring!
