I think this is a great activity for the first day of school regardless of the grade level. For second graders, I might change the writing sheets to include items that could be checked off as well. I think students would really enjoy the collaboration as they tried to make a guess as to what was in each box. I am already thinking of items I could use ... M Carbone maureen999
I really liked the scientific inquiry. I always begin my science class at the start of the school year with talking about using your senses. This is a great activity to start the school year off.
